Embossing is a print finishing technique where a custom metal die presses into the back of the card, pushing selected areas — typically your logo — upward to create a raised three-dimensional effect. When touched, the raised embossed areas are immediately noticeable.
Embossing raises the design above the card surface. Debossing presses the design INTO the card creating a recessed indent. Embossing is more traditional and prominent. Debossing has a cleaner, minimal architectural quality. Both create an impressive tactile effect.
Embossing works best with bold, clean design elements — logos with clear silhouettes, monograms, borders and geometric shapes. Very fine details and thin lines below 1mm can be lost in the embossing process. Thicker card stock produces the most pronounced effect.
